Department of shalakyatantra D Y Patil deemed to be University, School of Ayurveda, in association with TAS (The Association of Shalakis) had organised an online lecture series on the topic “Strabismus A to Z”
This lecture series was entirely dedicated to the topic of “Squint” The main aim of organising this series was to get the thorough clinical knowledge of the topic from the experts. As strabismus is mostly considered as difficult and challenging topic by many UG as well as PG students, thisproved to be extremely useful for them.
The eminent speakers for this series were-
1] Dr. Abha Kanade (MBBS, DOMS, Squint Surgeon at Janakalyan Eye Bank Pune )
2] Dr. Anand Khadke(M.S. Shalakya Tantra & Consulting Eye Surgeon at Ashanand Netra Rugnalaya)
The series started on 22/06/2022 and followed by total 15 lectures. The last lecture of the series was conducted on 05/01/2023. Every lecture was around 1.5 hrs time so it was total around 45 hours’ event.
The topics covered in these lectures included basics of strabismus,detailed clinical examination of squintpatient, various types of squint, concept of binocular vision and detailed knowledge of squint management, etc.
PG students from the department of shalakyatantra did case presentation of squint patient in each lecture followed by discussion.
There were prior 437 registrations for the lecture series from all over India Many eminent Shalakis regularly attended the lectures and gave their valuable inputs which in turn proved very beneficial for all the students.
The main aim of arranging this seminar was to provide comprehensive teaching, training at PG level by using the power of social media so that it can reach maximum students.
Conducting such seminars is a great tool for distant learning which will help students to be confident & competent Shalakya practitioners in the field of Ayurveda with modern medical & surgical advances.
