Full mouth rehabilitation of a 14 year old male patient with Cerebral Palsy and Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) – V

Patient Farhan Khan, 14/M, a known case Cerebral Palsy, history of epilepsy and Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) – V and weight 8 kgs reported to the department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, DY Patil University School of Dentistry with a chief complain of severe pain and swelling in lower right back tooth region.
The patient was taken to a number of hospitals in the vicinity to undergo the necessary treatment but no hospital took the responsibility of treating the child because of his medical condition and the high risk associated with it.
When the patient reported to our hospital, he was in severe pain and needed to get operated as soon as possible. After thorough evaluation, it was decided to treat the patient’s dental problem under general anesthesia by our team of pediatric dentists under the headship of Dr. Shilpa Shetty Naik (Professor and Head). The procedure was carried out by, Dr. Rucha Bhise Patil (Asoociate Professor), Dr. Ashveeta Shetty (Lecturer), Pediatric dental residents - Dr. Nupur Agarwal, Dr. Miloni Sanghavi and Oral surgery resident- Dr. Sagar Meswani. We took all the necessary precautions and with the help of the pediatricians and anesthesiologists we performed the procedure successfully.
Parents have a few words of appreciation to show their heartfelt gratitude- “Even though I had to come so far for my son’s treatment it was worth the effort because these doctors made sure that the procedure happens with utmost care and precaution. The operation was carried out successfully and now my son is free of pain, there were no complications and he is doing good. I am so grateful to the doctors here who worked relentlessly and made sure that my son is free of pain that made his life better.”
After the follow up and as stated by the parents the patient is doing much better and is free of pain.
