Basic Nursing Program in Paediatrics

A professional development programme on ‘Basic Nursing Program in Paediatrics’ was held on 14/09/2017 at 10:00 am for the faculty members of school of nursing. The resource persons were faculties from department of paediatrics D.Y.P.S.O.N. Total number of participants were 13. The overall aim of the program was to educate future nurses to provide competent, effective and compassionate care of patients by developing clinical reasoning, communication and life-long learning skills.

Objectives:
* To Identify normal growth, development and behaviour and their assessment, as well as approaches to abnormalities from infancy through adolescence
* To describe health maintenance and preventive care for children, including age-related issues in nutrition, safety, vaccination and risk factor identification and modification.
* To recognize common acute and chronic paediatric conditions, congenital and genetic syndromes, and the importance of age on their manifestations and treatment.
* Apply principles of nursing care to care for children from birth through adulthood, especially age-related changes.
Paediatric nurses provide preventative and acute care in all settings to children and adolescents. Paediatric Nurse Practitioners perform physical exams, diagnose illness and injury, and provide education and support to patients’ families.

The program had thrown light on different areas such as Primary care services including
* Health maintenance care, including “well child” examinations
* Routine developmental screenings
* Diagnosis and treatment of common childhood illnesses
* Anticipatory guidance regarding common child health concerns and
Acute care and specialty services including:
* Caring for children who are acutely, chronically or critically ill
* Performing in-depth physical assessments
* Interpreting results of laboratory and diagnostic tests
* Ordering medications and performing therapeutic treatments
Outcome:
The Conference On ‘Basic Nursing Program In Paediatrics’
was proved to be helpful in equipping the future nurses with excellent skills in the field of paediatric nursing and to update the knowledge of faculties too.
