The first year students were taken for a visit at D Y Patil Deemed to be University School of Medicine, Navi-Mumbai on 08th July, 2022. A total of 51 students visited the college. The head of the pathology department Prof Dr. Rajiv Rao allowed students of our school to visit the pathology lab and biochemistry lab of the D Y Patil Hospital. Two of his doctors from his staff Dr. Anand and Dr. Shirish gave the primary understanding and working of the lab. The students were divided in groups and were allowed to visit the lab. The lab consisted of numerous instruments that are used to elucidate the blood or serum samples for any biochemical parameters. The lab consisted of an automated cell analyzer that is used for complete blood count. It is a fully automated machine, wherein samples are kept for analysis and within few minutes analyzed samples are ejected out and a complete report is being generated on the computer. The lab also had machines to estimate the HbA1C parameter in the blood to understand the diabetic profile of an individual. The biochemistry lab had instruments that are sensitive enough to understand the hormone levels in blood or serum. This is important to analyze cancer biomarkers. The visit enabled the students to understand the applications of pathways in disease elucidation.
